Overview

Highly customizable macOS utility that offers you the possibility to place text content in to your status bar, or to run scripts that display useful information

TextBar is a small but very useful macOS utility that enables you to either place custom text content in your status bar or to run scripts that provide relevant information. The app comes with a limited number of predefined scripts, but you get to easily add new ones to the list.

Upon launch, TextBar places several new menulets in your status bar, and you get to quickly copy the displayed information to your clipboard. To customize the app, open the Preferences window and toggle the visibility of these menulets, or adjust their behaviour.

TextBar allows you to adjust the refresh rate and can send notification messages when a modification is registered. What’s more, you get to change the default status bar icon associated with each script: TextBar comes with an extensive collection of beautiful icons from icons8.com.

Within the TextBar Preferences window you get to setup an unlimited number of scripts or commands and keep them active at all times, or toggle their visibility according to your needs. To change their order in the status bar, just rearrange them in the Preferences window with drag and drop actions.

In the bottom area of the Preferences window, there is a link that directs you to the TextBar Recipes project where you can see various custom commands, or download scripts that can be installed on your Mac.

All in all, configuring the TextBar utility is fairly straightforward: simply copy the commands or download the scripts found on the Recipes page. On the other hand, if you are tech savvy enough, you can use it to run commands that match your workflow perfectly.
